MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team hits the road on Saturday, as the Cardinals head to Ed Saugestand Arena for the second game of their two-game MIAC series against Augsburg. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals scored 1:05 into the first period and never relinquished the lead in handing Augsburg a 3-2 MIAC setback at the SMU Ice Arena.

January 27, 2012: The Cardinals scored their first goal with 31 seconds left in the first period, added their second 57 seconds left in the middle period, then iced the game with back-to-back tallies 21 seconds apart in the final 1:16 of the third period, as SMU cruised to a 5-2 win over Augsburg at Ed Saugestad Arena.
January 28, 2012: SMU goalie Sarah Gustafson (Esko, Minn.) and Augsburg's Crystal Amunrud were a pair of brick walls — each allowing just one goal — as the Cardinals battled the Auggies to a 1-1 conference tie at the SMU Ice Arena.

Friday's 3-2 win over Augsburg snapped the Cardinals' three-game losing streak. … The win was also SMU's third win at the SMU Ice Arena. … Hope Karban (Oconto, Wis.), Breanna Peterson (Macomb, Mich.) and McKenna Parent (Ham Lake, Minn.) accounted for SMU's three goals vs. Augsburg Friday. … Karban's goal was the first of her collegiate career. … Peterson, who has now scored in back-to-back games, leads the team in goals (7) and points (11). … Two of Peterson's seven goals have come when SMU was shorthanded. … Mary DeBartolo (Chicago, Ill.) — whose five goals and 11 points are second to Peterson — shares the team's assist lead (6) with Mackenzie Klimek (Hastings, Minn.). … DeBartolo recorded her first collegiate hat trick on Jan. 4, scoring all three of SMU's goals — including the game-winner in overtime — in its 3-2 win over UW-Eau Claire. … DeBartolo owns two game-winning goals — with both coming in overtime.
