ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team's motto has been simple all season: Take the season one match at a time.
And if Saint Mary's University volleyball coach
Mike Lester was concerned that his Cardinals would stray from that motto and, rather than focus on Friday's showdown against St. Catherine — focus on Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown with 15-ranked Augsburg — the Cardinals put those worries to rest in a hurry.
The Cardinals, fueled by
Alex Peterson (Harmony, Minn.) and
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.), wasted no time dispatching of the Wildcats 3-0 Friday evening at Butler Center.
Peterson recorded a team-best 12 kills, while Nordick chipped in 10 — with both hitting an impressive .500.
Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) finished with 39 assists and
Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a team-leading 16 digs.
The Cardinals, who have now won two straight and nine of their last 10, can now turn all their attention to knocking off the Auggies, who host SMU in a key MIAC showdown on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
