MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team hit 15th-ranked Augsburg with a lethal Alex Peterson (Harmony, Minn.)-Kenzie Lind (Rushford, Minn.) 1-2 punch Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinal duo banged out a combined 30 kills in the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

Unfortunately, the Auggies not only took all the Cardinals had to offer, they countered with a knockout combination of Colleen Ourada and Ashley Peper.

Ourada wore the Cardinals down with her 16 kills and Peper delivered the knockout blow with 19 kills and a .311 attack percentage, as the Auggies handed SMU a 3-1 conference setback at Si Melby Hall.

The two teams traded wins in the first two sets, with Augsburg opening with a 25-23 victory, while the Cardinals rebounded with an impressive 25-11 Set 2 win. The Auggies outlasted SMU 28-26 in the third set, then sealed the win by recording seven of the final eight points to win the fourth set 25-18.

Along with the 19-kill effort by Peterson and the 11-kill showing by Lind, SMU also got 42 assists from Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) and 17 kills from Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.). Brooke Schilling (Altura, Minn.) and Jordan Wolfe (Wabasha, Minn.) chipped in 14 and 11 digs, respectively, while Krogstad, Schilling and Kaylee Bunne (LeRoy, Minn.) accounted for the Cardinals' three service aces.

The Cardinals (4-4 MIAC, 21-7 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., for a 7 p.m. conference match against St. Olaf.
