WINONA, Minn. — Gustavus headed into Wednesday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown with the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team boasting a rather potent 1-2 punch.

And the Cardinals learned first-hand just how potent.

Zach Brown and David Lilly had a hand in all three of Gustavus' goals, as the Gusties handed SMU a 3-1 conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field.

Brown set up GAC's first goal, feeding Sean Sendelbach, who beat SMU goalkeeper Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.) just four minutes into the opening half. Brown then added his team-leading fifth goal of the season — off an assist from Lilly — before the half was over, as GAC took a 2-0 advantage into the break.

Six minutes into the second half, it was Lilly's turn scoring an unassisted tally to make it 3-0. Andrew Jaworski (Racine, Wis.) got the Cardinals on the board in the 73rd minute, scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from Midhat Mujic (Rochester, Minn.), but that was all the offense the Cardinals could muster.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, heading to Fargo Shanley High School in Fargo, N.D., for a 1 p.m. conference contest against Concordia.
