GameDay Preview
WINONA, Minn. — As if playing Loras — the 18th-ranked team in the country wasn't tough enough — the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team had to do so just days after the Duhawks were handed their first loss of the season.
And, unfortunately SMU, Loras took its frustrations out on the Cardinals, scoring a pair of first-half goals and never looking back in handing Saint Mary's a 5-0 nonconference setback Wednesday at Ochrymowycz Field.
Kevin Cavers got the Duhawks on the board in the 22nd minute, netting his first of the season. Alex Bradley pushed that lead to 2-0 19 minutes later, heading a pass from Johnny Rummelhart past SMU goalkeeper
Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.).
The opportunistic Duhawks tacked on three second-half goals in a span of 25 minutes midway through the period, as Tim van den Bergh, Sam Koenig and Alejandro Cosmopolis all found the back of the net.
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, as SMU closes out the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 4 p.m. contest against Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.
