WINONA, Minn. — Darcy Rice (Eagan, Minn.) scored 13 points and Courtney Euerle (Litchfield, Minn.) added 10, but it was not enough, as Winona State handed the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team a 62-51 exhibition setback Sunday afternoon at McCown Gymnasium.

The Cardinals, who are coming off a 22-5 record a year ago — and officially kick off their 2013-14 season next Saturday with a 3 p.m. home game against UW-La Crosse — trailed by just two, 39-37, at halftime, but the Warriors held SMU to just 14 second-half points in recording the win in their season-opener.

SMU shot 33.3 percent from the field (19-for-57) — but made just 4 of 29 attempts, including 1-for-13 from behind the 3-point line, in the second half.

Abby Busch scored a game-high 21 points to lead three WSU players in double figures, with Kelsey Andrist and Kate Hartman addig 18 and 13 points, respectively.
