MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — For Saint Mary's University's Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa), the third — and final — time was a charm.

After coming up one place finish short of reaching the consolation finals his first two events at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, the Cardinal senior made his final chance count, clocking a time of 1:57.99 in the 200 backstroke.

And in that consolation final, Ross maintained his 11th-place positioning, touching the wall in 1:58.03.

In other action in Saturday's final day of the three-day event at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, Sarah Jansen (Manitowoc, Wis.) finished 16th in the one-meter diving competition, P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) was 20th in the 100 free, touching the wall in 49.99, while Abby Kratzke (Dent, Minn.) was 21st in the 200 butterfly, clocking a time of 2:31.50 and Sivan Fogel (Haifa, Isreal) posted a time of 2:28.69 to place 26th in the 200 backstroke.

As a team, the Cardinal men placed eight, while the SMU women were 10th.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS: Ross again found himself coming up just short, as the Cardinal senior knocked 10 seconds off his season-best time in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:25.00 — only to come up one place short of the consolation finals for the second time in as many days, finishing 17th. … Abby Kratzke (Dent, Minn.) followed Ross' lead, missing out on a spot in the 100 butterfly consolation finals by one place, settling for 17th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.19. … Jansen posted a 16th-place showing in the three-meter diving with a 246.45 total. … P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) recorded a time of 1:55.44 in the 200 freestyle. … Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) placed 21st in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.90) and Fogel adding a 27th-place showing in the100 backstroke (1:08.30).

THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS: Ross shaved nearly four seconds off his season-best time in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:02.31. Unfortunately for the Cardinal senior, his best just wasn't enough — by .33 seconds — as Ross was out-touched by Carleton's Jonathan Brodie for the final spot in the consolation finals. … Smaron knocked almost 10 seconds off her season-best IM time, touching the wall in 2:23.75 to finish 24th overall. … Heller added a 27th-place time of 22.98 in the 50 freestyle, while Abby Kratzke posted a 35th-place time of 26.94 in the 50 freestyle.
