NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams close out the indoor portion of their 2013 season on Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by St. Olaf.

Cardinals' Last Action:
The SMU women stole the show for the Cardinals at last Friday's St. laf Qualifier, collecting three second-place efforts in the
non-team-scored event.
Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) placed second in the shot put, while sister
Maya Booker was second in the weight throw and
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) added her second in the 200. On the men's side, Bryan Ortman posted a sixth-place leap of 12.02 meters in the triple jump, while
Gabe Thiel (Elgin, Minn.) was seventh in the 600 (1:28.28) to pace the Cardinals.
MIAC Championships — A Year Ago:
Men: The St. Thomas men continued its impressive display at the conference meet, cruising to its 28th-straight MIAC Indoor title by a 60-point margin of victory with a final score of 189.5. The Tommies have won the title at each of the 28 indoor conference meets. Hamline was the runner-up again in 2012 with a total of 129.5. Bethel (104.5) edged Gustavus (101) for fourth place, and St. Olaf scored 77.5 to finish fifth. Carleton (69), Saint John's (42.5), Augsburg (31), Concordia (29.5), Macalester (5) and Saint Mary's (0) rounded out the rest of the men's standings |

Women: The UST women claimed their 13th-straight indoor title as well, winning by an even 50 points to cap off another great performance. St. Thomas scored 164 team points to sit atop the women's standings. Carleton had two first-place finishes and took home second place on the women's side with a total of 114. St. Olaf finished third with 97, Bethel as fourth with 85 and Saint Benedict (74) edged Hamline (70) for the final spot in the top five. SMU at MIAC Indoor Championships — A Year Ago:
March 2-3, 2012: Cardinal junior
Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) uncorked a career-best toss of 42-feet, 7-inches — which, at the time, was a Leonard Center Field House record — on her third of six throws in the shot put and her second-place, all-conference effort highlighted the Cardinals' showing during Saturday's final day of the indoor season-ending conference championships.
Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) and
John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) chipped in 19th-place efforts to pace the Cardinal men, as Haley finished 19th in the 3,000 (9:03.99), while Soucheray added his 19th in the 1,000 (2:38.50). The SMU men placed
11th, while the Cardinal women were
12th.
