MIAC Day 1 Recap
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Saint Mary's University track and field coach Shawn McMahon headed into this weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hoping his Cardinals had saved their best for last.
Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) certainly has.
The Cardinal senior — competing in the final conference championships of his collegiate career — raced to a time of 4:03.07 in the 1,500 preliminaries Friday to earn a spot in Saturday's final. Borash outkicked St. Olaf's Michael Roth in the first of the two 1,500 heats and heads into Saturday boasting the top time in the 12-person final field.
In other action for the Cardinal men, Jed McGlasson (Kenai, Alaska) clocked a time of 57.92 in the 400 hurdles, while
Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) kicked off a busy weekend recording a throw of 41.89 meters in the hammer throw. Wiggert will also compete in the shot put on Saturday.
On the women's side,
Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) placed 10th in the shot put, recording a throw of 11.65 meters, while
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) notched a time of 13.36 in the 100, Jocelyn Moreno (Cicero, Ill.) stopped the clock in 5:11.99 in the 1,500,
Kim Puk (Naperville, Ill.) posted a time of 65.90 in the 400, and Abby Osborne (Winthrop, Minn.) uncorked a toss of 27.04 meters in the javelin.
