RIPON, Wis. — The first time the Saint Mary's University volleyball team squared off against Lakeland this season, it was SMU's opening match of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic — a match the Cardinals won handily, 3-0.

For the second time this season, the Cardinals and Muskies were on opposite sides of the net for SMU's first match of a tournament — this time at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational.

And for the second straight time, the Cardinals made quick work of the Muskies, as SMU ran its winning streak to eight straight with a 3-0 victory over Lakeland.

Correction … Thanks to a second straight 3-0 victory over Concordia (Wis.) in their second match of the night, that winning streak climbed to nine straight — SMU's longest winning streak since winning nine in a row during the 2009 season.

Kenzie Lind (Rushford, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals' offense against Lakeland, recording 11 kills, while hitting .346. Alex Peterson (Harmony, Minn.) chipped in 10 kills, and Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) notched 29 assists, three digs and four blocks. Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.), recorded a team-best 23 digs against the Muskies, with Jordan Wolfe (Wabasha, Minn.) chipping in 10 digs.

Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) took center stage against Concordia, collecting a match-high 17 kills, while Assimos tallied 34 assists and 12 digs, and Krogstad and Morgan Thomas (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Brooke Schilling () added 13 and 10 kills, respectively.

The Cardinals (10-2) are back in action Saturday, squaring off against St. Norbert and Ripon in Day 2 of the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational.
