ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team, coming off a 4-0 showing at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational last weekend, takes to the road on Tuesday, traveling to Macalester for a 7 p.m. MIAC match against the Scots.

Last Action:
The Cardinals cruised to the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational title last weekend in Ripon, Wis., as SMU dropped Lakeland (3-0), Concordia (Wis.) (3-0), St. Norbert (3-0) and host Ripon (3-1) en route to its perfect 4-0 weekend. … The Scots have been off since last Wednesday, when nationally ranked St. Thomas handed Macalester a 3-0 setback on the Tommies' home court in St. Paul, Minn.

SMU vs. Macalester — Their Last Meeting:
September 12, 2012: Riding the momentum of back-to-back wins during the final day of the Bethany Lutheran Tournament, SMU made it look easy in their conference opener against Macalester. Fueled by a trio of players with 10 or more kills, the Cardinals kicked off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a convincing 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) victory over the Scots at the Leonard Center in St. Paul, Minn.

The Cardinals return to MIAC play this weekend at the SMU Gym, hosting nationally ranked Saint Benedict in a 7 p.m. match on Friday, before entertaining Concordia in a 3 p.m. conference showdown on Saturday. … Macalester also has a pair of conference matches this weekend, as the Scots host Bethel on Friday night at Leonard Center in St. Paul, Minn., before traveling to St. Peter, Minn., for a 4 p.m. match against Gustavus on Saturday.

With their four wins last weekend in Ripon, Wis., the Cardinals pushed their winning streak to a school record-tying 11 straight. … SMU dropped just one set en route to winning the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational last weekend. The Cardinals swept their first three opponents — Lakeland, Concordia (Wis.) and St. Norbert — before winning their final match 3-1 vs. Ripon. … For the third time in as many tournaments, Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) was named to the all-tournament team last weekend at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational. Assimos was also named to the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic and North Park Viking Clash all-tournament teams this season. … Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) joined Assimos on the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational all-tournament team. … With their performance last weekend, SMU improved to 7-1 in three-set matches and 5-1 in four-setters. The Cardinals have yet to play a five-set match this season. … Alex Peterson (Harmony, Minn.) collected a team-best 39 kills in four tournament matches last weekend, one more than Kenzie Lind (Rushford, Minn.). … Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) recorded a career-high 17 kills in SMU's 3-0 win over Concordia (Wis.) last Friday. Fadness' performance was also the highest single-match kill performance of the season for the Cardinals. … Assimos dished out 142 assists — not to mention 14 kills, six aces, 30 digs and nine blocks — en route to her all-tournament selection last weekend. … Assimos recorded a season-high 41 assists against Ripon last Saturday. It was the third time this season and 23rd time in her career that Assimos has recorded 40 or more assists. … Assimos has notched 30 or more helpers in 10 of the Cardinals' 14 matches. … Krogstad's all-tournament performance last weekend included a team-best 90 digs. The sophomore libero notched a season-high 30 digs in SMU's 3-1 win over Ripon last Saturday. … Krogstad — whose 30-dig effort against Ripon was just six digs shy of her career-best — has now recorded 10 or more digs in each of the Cardinals' last six matches and 12 times in SMU's 14 matches this season. … Morgan Thomas (Palos Park, Ill.) has recorded a team-best 25 aces through 14 matches, while Assimos is second with 19. … SMU won the first set in all four of its tournament matches last weekend and has now been victorious in Set 1 in 24 of its last 26 wins. … With their 3-0 win over Lakeland on Aug. 30, the Cardinals won their season-opener for the third straight season.

Macalester's 3-0 loss to defending national champion St. Thomas last Wednesday snapped the Scots' two-match winning streak. … Macalester enters Tuesday's match against Saint Mary's — the first of back-to-back home matches for the Scots — having won four of its last five matches. … Brook Hunter recorded eight kills and Laura Avena tallied seven kills and a team-leading 10 digs in the Scots' loss to St. Thomas. … Avena heads into Tuesday's match against Saint Mary's with a team-leading 165 kills, .275 attack percentage and 38 aces. … Hunter is second on the team with 122 kills, while Kasey McMaster — who finished with 21 assists vs. UST last Wednesday — has collected a team-best 358 assists through 16 matches. … With her team-leading 38 aces, Avena is one of four players with 10 or more aces for the Scots, who own 130 aces as a team this season. … Cora Trout has amassed a team-high 122 digs, one more than Avena. … Twelve of Macalester's 16 matches have been decided by 3-0 sweeps — including eight of the Scots' nine wins. … Six of Macalester's nine wins have come on their home court. The Scots are 3-5 away from Leonard Center.
