MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team had rather fond memories of their last trip to Memorial Auditorium.
Flashback to November 5, 2013 … The Cardinals got seven kills and 34 assists from senior setter
Lexi Assimos, as Saint Mary's punched its ticket to the MIAC Tournament semifinals in convincing fashion, cruising to a dominating 3-0 win over the fourth-seeded Cobbers.
Fast-forward to Saturday afternoon—and it was another memorable Memorial Auditorium for the Cardinals.
Saint Mary's boasted three players with 10 or more kills, and
Lex Krogstad delivered 21 digs, as the Cardinals put together a dominating 15-5 bSet 5 win to drop the host Cobbers 3-2 (13-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-27, 15-5).
Macki Fadness finished with a team-leading 11 kills, one more than
Mary Nordick and
Molly Urban, while
Tayler MacVey and
Brittney Hanson dished out 25 and 20 assists, respectively.
The Cardinals (3-2 MIAC, 12-6 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., for a 7 p.m. match against Carleton.
