Galewski, VanBeest, Finkelstein pace Cardinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving coach Eric Lindquist knew that his squads' tanks were running a bit empty—training the way the Cardinals have been will do that to a team.

The Cardinals, however, didn't show any signs of wear and tear on Saturday at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational, as the Saint Mary's men placed fifth overall, while the women were sixth.

Reese Galewski (Winona, Minn.) posted the top finish for the Cardinal women, placing fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.50), while Zac Finkelstein (Naperville, Ill.) tallied an eighth-place time of 51.53 in the 100 freestyle to pace the Saint Mary's men.

Along with her fourth in the 100 butterfly, Galewski also added a ninth in the 200 IM (2:27.90), while Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.)) recorded a fifth in 100 breaststroke (1:14.35), a seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:50.14) and an 11th in the 200 IM (2:29.34). Katie Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.), meanwhile, chipped in a fifth in 50 freestyle (26.27) and a seventh in 200 freestyle (2:05.14), and Janelle Mueller (Lewiston, Minn.) finished seventh in the one-meter diving competition (161.00) and an eighth in the three-meter (147.95).

Finkelstein chipped in an 11th in the 50 freestyle (22.90), while Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) tallied a 10th in 200 backstroke (2:11.17) and a 13th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.93).
