Auseth named MIAC WBB Athlete of the Week

WINONA, Minn. — Shelby Auseth (Wanamingo, Minn.) scored 18 or more points three times a year ago—including one game of 20 or more points.

Two games into the 2014-15 season, as the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota junior is two-thirds of the way there, as Auseth averaged 21.0 points-per-game in leading the Cardinals to back-to-back wins at the season-opening Saint Benedict Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament.

And Auseth's impressive two-game performance did not go unnoticed, as she was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Auseth kicked off the season with a game-high 18-point performance in leading the Cardinals to a 72-62 win over UW-River Falls last Saturday.

As good as the junior guard was in the season-opener, she was even better in Game 2 a day later, pouring in 24 points and adding nine rebounds to spark Saint Mary's 68-65 victory over UM-Morris—en route to earning all-tournament honors.

Auseth's 24-point effort was just four points shy of her collegiate best—a 28-point outburst against North Central (Ill.) on Dec. 28, 2013—while her nine rebounds against UM-Morris were a career high.

Auseth and the Cardinals (2-0 overall)—ranked No. 23 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll and No. 24 in the USA Today Sports Preseason Top 25—are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Eau Claire, Wis., for an 8 p.m. game against UW-Eau Claire.
