MIAC ReleaseWINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team locked up its second straight berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoffs last week—and leading the Cardinal playoff charge was junior libero
Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.).
Krogstad amassed a team-leading 41 digs in the team's two MIAC matches, including a season-high 28 in the Cardinals' regular-season finale against Gustavus—a win that secured a home match in the opening round of the conference playoffs.
Krogstad's efforts did not go unnoticed either, as the junior was named MIAC Libero/Setter of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Krogstad—who has been the Cardinals' dig leader in each of her first three seasons in a Saint Mary's uniform—opened the week with a 13-dig effort in the Cardinals' 3-0 win over St. Olaf last Wednesday, a win that secured Saint Mary's second straight post-season appearance.
And as good as she was on Wednesday, Krogstad was at her very best on Saturday, posting her second 28-dig effort of the season in guiding Saint Mary's to its second straight 3-0 win of the week, this time over Gustavus.
Krogstad, who heads into post-season play owning a team-best 503 digs, has amassed 1,564 digs in three stellar seasons—ranking second in program history—and has eclipsed the 20-dig barrier 11 times this season.
Saint Mary's hosts Bethel in the MIAC playoff quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Saint Mary's Gym. The Cardinals-Royals winner will square off against top-seeded Augsburg on Thursday in Minneapolis, Minn.
