ST. PAUL, Minn. — Saint Mary's University swimming and diving coach Eric Lindquist approached this weekend's St. Thomas MIAC Preview as a chance for the Cardinals to get one last crack and turning in some solid performances — thus giving them a bit of momentum heading into the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks.

And build momentum the Cardinals did.

"This was a good meet for us for a number of reasons," explained Lindquist. "It gave us an opportunity to go up against the other schools in the conference — to see just how we stack up — one more time before the conference championships.

"And we had the opportunity to put together some good swims, and hopefully gain a little momentum heading into conference."

P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the way for the men in the non-team-scored event, clocking a time of 23.42 in the 50 freestyle, while adding a 52.72 in the 100 freestyle and a 1:58.43 in 200 freestyle. Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) added a 1:06.36 in the 100 breaststroke, while Evan Lecy (St. Paul, Minn.) recorded a score of 170.70 in the one-meter diving, and added a 144.15 in the three-meter.

On the women's side, Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) posted a time of 1;17:58 in 100 breaststroke, while adding a 2:45.72 in the 200 breaststroke. Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) also had a busy weekend, posting a 2:32.28 in 200 IM and a 1:16.53 in 100 breaststroke, while Anne Raecker (Cedar Falls, Iowa) chipped in a 2:20.98 in the 200 freestyle and Kristin Wilkes (Savage, Minn.) added a 1:18.96 in 100 back

Claire Judeh (Eagan, Minn.) scored a 176.95 in the one-meter diving, while Sarah Jansen (Manitowoc, Wis.) finished at 161.10, while also adding a score of 153.55 in the 3-meter.

The Cardinals are now off until Feb. 13-15, when they take part in the three-day MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
