MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams just keep getting better and better.

The Cardinals were good at their season-opening SMU Early Birdinal two weeks ago, better a week later at the UW-River Falls Winter Classic — and even better yet Saturday at the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Invitational.

"It was a great meet for us all the way around," said SMU coach Niels Anderson. "What was really get to see was that, as the level of competition has increased with each of our three meets, everyone has risen to meet that level of competition — and that's very satisfying as a coach."

Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) led the way for the SMU women, breaking the school record with a time of 8.14 in the 60. Schommer also clocked a time of 27.34 to place second in the 200, while teammate Rebecca Krueger (Ashland, Wis.) was seventh in 28.16. Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) shaved 27 seconds off her collegiate-best time in the 3,000, stopping the clock in 10:49.57 to place fourth, while Abi Osborne (Winthrop, Minn.) uncorked a personal-best throw of 13.19 to finish seventh in the weight throw.

Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) and Jacob Hagen-Erickson (Austin, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal men, as Kircher was seventh in the weight throw with a collegiate-best 14.94, while Hagen-Erickson delivered a leap of 6.11 on his last attempt to grab seventh. The Cardinal 4x200 relay team of Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Wis.), Erickson, Jacob Paulson (Ellendale, Minn.) and Andrew Markert (St. Paul, Minn.) added a third-place time of 1:38.55.

The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Decorah, Iowa to take part in the Luther Open.
