SMU picked up six first-place finishes at last Saturday's Luther Open. … Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) — who broke the school record in the 60 with a time of 8.14 at the Warren Bowlus Invitational on Feb. 1 — was back to her record-breaking self at the Luther Open, shattering the Luther Fieldhouse record in the 300, breaking the tape in a winning time of 43.52.  … Schommer also won the 55 (7.55). … Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) swept the throwing events at the Luther Open, winning the weight throw in 14.68 meters and the shot put in 10.75 meters. … Becca Iten (Fridley, Minn.) also collected a first for the Cardinal women, clearing the bar at 2.80 meters in the pole vault. … Bryan Ortman (Chicago, Ill.) collected SMU's sixth first-place finish at the Luther Open, winning the triple jump with a mark of 12.48 meters. … Rebecca Krueger (Ashland, Wis.) was second in the 400 (1:05.73), and Bridget Hayes (Chicago, Ill.) and Josie Moreno (Cicero, Ill.) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the mile with tiems of 5:52.57 and 5:54.41. … Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Minn.), Jacob Hagen-Erickson (Austin, Minn.), Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) and Alex Davis (Champaign, Ill.) all chipped in third-place efforts for the SMU men at the Luther Open — Kircher notched a throw of 14.00 meters in the weight throw, while Wiggert posted a throw of 12.63 in the shot put, Hagen-Erickson uncorked a leap of 5.68 meters in the long jump and Davis earned his third in the 400, where he crossed the finish line in 54.10. … Gabe Thiel (Elgin, Minn.) and Jacob Paulson (Polson, Mont.) chipped in fourth- and fifth-place efforts in the 300, recording time of 28.83 and 29.31, respectively.
