MIAC Athletes Of The Week
WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team continued its run toward a regular-season conference title last week — and senior
Courtney Euerle (Litchfield, Minn.) was in the driver's seat.
Euerle spearheaded the Cardinals' 76-52 win over St. Olaf and 72-69 victory over last year's regular-season champion Concordia, averaging 13.0 points-per-game and 10.5 rebounds-per-game — and Monday, the conference rewarded her for her efforts by naming the SMU senior forward MIAC Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.
Euerle kicked off her week with a 10-point, 11-rebound showing against St. Olaf, and followed that up with 16 points and 10 boards against the Cobbers in helping SMU push its winning streak to 14 straight — the program's longest such streak since the 1985-86 Cardinals opened their season with 19 consecutive wins en route to SMU's last regular-season women's basketball conference championship.
The senior forward leads the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg), has scored in double figures 13 times this season and owns three of the team's four double-doubles.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 21 in the latest D3hoops.com and USA TODAY Sports Division III Top 25s, put their 14-game win streak and conference-leading 14-1 record on the line three times this week — at home against Macalester on Monday, followed by road games at Carleton on Wednesday and at St. Thomas on Saturday.
