NORTHFIELD, Minn. — It was one last chance for the Saint Mary's University track and field teams to get in a little work before next weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
And work they did.
Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) finished second in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put to lead the SMU women at Friday evening's St. Olaf Ole Invitational, while the Cardinal 4x200 relay team finished third and Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Minn.) added a fifth in the weight throw to fuel the SMU men.
Booker uncorked a throw of 15.40 meters to place second in the weight throw, while also adding a fourth-place toss of 11.64 meters in the shot put.
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) placed third in the 400, edging teammate
Rebecca Krueger. Schommer stopped the clock in 1:03.21, with Krueger right on her heels at 1:04.31.
Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) added a fourth-place showing in the mile (5:22.85, while
Bridget Hayes (Chicago, Ill.) was ninth in the 1,000 (3:19.28).
On the men's side, the 4 x 400 relay team of Jacob Paulson (Ellendale, Minn.), Alex Davis (Champaign, Ill.), Sherman Moga (Shoreview, Minn.) and Andrew Markert (St. Paul, Minn.) stopped the clock in 3:41.88 to place third, while Kircher delivered a throw of 14.97 to finish fifth in the weight throw and Zach Palma (Washburn, Wis.) jumped 11.88 meters to finish seventh in the triple jump.
The Cardinals will close out the indoor portion of their season next Friday and Saturday, when they take part in the two-day conference championships in Collegeville, Minn.
