ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams are back in action on Saturday, as the Cardinals travel to Gustavus to take part in the Lee Krough Invitational.

Cardinals at Gustavus Lee Krough Invitational — Their Last Appearance:
April 10, 2010: For four years, Derek Wherley (Missoula, Mont.) has been determined to break the school's hammer throw record.  In the first outdoor meet of his final collegiate season, Wherley completed his mission, uncorking a school-record throw of 41.60 meters. Unfortunately, Wherley's name lasted in the record books for just over 25 minutes, as teammate Andrew Brueggen (Holmen, Wis.) bettered the mark by 14 meters with his event-winning throw of 55.19 meters to lead the way for the Cardinals in St. Peter, Minn. | Recap

The Cardinals boasted fifths in three events to highlight their effort at the UW-La Crosse Ashton May Invitational last Saturday. … Bryan Ortman (Chicago, Ill.) uncorked a leap of 11.96 meters in the triple jump to finish fifth, while Jacob Hagen-Erickson (Austin, Minn.) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.31 meters and Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) was fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.46 meters. … Booker also placed 10th in the shot put (11.20 meters). … Other women's highlights at the Ashton May Invitational last Saturday included Shauna Stephens (Norwood, Minn.) placing 10th in the 5,000 (21:00.49) and Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) adding a 17th in the 1,500 (4:58.15). … On the men's side, Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Wis.) chipped in a ninth in javelin (35.86 meters) and Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) added a 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.82 meters.
