Decathlon Results

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Competing in one or two events at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships just wasn't enough for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota sophomore Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Wis.).

Ten events, now that was more to his liking.

Emmerich competed in his first-ever conference decathlon Thursday and Friday, placing ninth with a total of 4,772 points. St. Thomas' Maxwell Dunne won the event, finishing with 6,561 points to edge Carleton's Colby Seyferth, who was second with 6,342 points.

In Thursday's opening five events, the Cardinal sophomore posted a time of 54.18 in the 400 and 12.30 in the 100, while tossing the shot put 9.63 meters, leaping 5.01 meters in the long jump and clearing 1.47 meters in the high jump.

In the final five events on Friday, Emmerich clocked times of 17.42 in the 110 hurdles and 5:15.44 in the 1,500, while adding throws of 25.63 meters in the discus and 38.32 meters in the javelin, before clearing 3.57 meters in the pole vault.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, taking part in the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., before closing out the regular season at the 2014 conference championships next Friday and Saturday in Northfield, Minn.
