Box Score WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team was good in its first two matches of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic.
And the Cardinals were even better in Match No. 3, as Saint Mary's picked up its third straight 3-0 victory with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Illinois Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
"We were pretty good (in Friday's wins over North Park and the University of Dubuque," said Saint Mary's coach
Mike Lester. "But I thought we were even better (against Illinois Wesleyan)."
Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals against the Titans, banging out a match-high 12 kills and hitting .429.
Kenzie Lind (Rushford, Minn.) chipped in 10 kills and
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.) added nine.
Tayler MacVey (Dodge Center, Minn.) and
Brittney Hanson (Janesville, Iowa) shared the setting duties, accumulating 22 and 20 assists, respectively, while
Lex Krogstad finished with a match-high 24 digs.
Kyleigh Block tallied eight kills, Colleen Rynne tallied 21 of the team's 23 assists, and Loryn Bruer finished with 20 digs in the losing effort for Illinois Wesleyan (1-3 overall).
The Cardinals (3-0 overall) close out the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic at 4 p.m. on Saturday, squaring off against Wartburg.
