WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Jim Dreshar (Hugo, Minn.) entered Saturday's men's soccer game against Carleton riding a five-game scoring streak, having netted goals in two of the Cardinals' first five games, and notching an assist in the other three.
The Knights, however, did something no one else has been able to do this season — silence the Cardinal freshman.
And, unfortunately for coach
Pete Watkins, Carleton also silenced the rest of the Cardinal squad, as the Knights erupted for three goals in a 14-minute span early in the second half to hand Saint Mary's a 3-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field.
The two teams battled to a scoreless deadlock through the game's opening 45 minutes, with Saint Mary's goalkeeper
Zach Satton (Tehachapi, Calif.) making three first-half saves, while Carleton's Keenan Smith stopping both Cardinal shots.
Carleton finally broke through in the game's 58th minute, as Jordan Cammarota scored the first of his two goals, weaving through the Cardinal defense and blistering a shot that found the lower left-hand corner of the net.
Four minutes later, the Knights struck again, this time on an unassisted tally by Branden McGarrity. Cammarota would add his second of the game—and third of the season—10 minutes later to close out the scoring.
Carleton kept Satton busy in the game's final 45 minutes, peppering the Cardinal goalkeeper with six second-half shots.
The Cardinals (0-2-0 MIAC, 2-3-0 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Mount Vernon, Iowa, for a 4 p.m. nonconference game against Cornell.
