Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team opened the Colorado College Classic with a win — but beating East Texas Baptist was anything but easy.
The Cardinals rebounded from a sluggish opening set to outlast the Tigers 3-2 (12-25, 25-15, 27-25, 22-25, 15-12) in the first of four tournament matches over the next two days.
Cassidy Bittle (Winona, Minn.) enjoyed her best offensive match as a Cardinal, banging out a match- and career-high 17 kills, while
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn. / 13),
Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis. / 12) and
Molly Urban (Roseville, Minn. / 10) also collected 10 or more kills.
Tayler MacVey (Dodge Center, Minn.) dished out 29 assists, with
Brittney Hanson (Janesville, Iowa) chipping in 25 helpers and a team-best 17 digs.
Mallory Sanders finished with 15 kills and Adaeze Elonu added 11 in the losing effort for East Texas Baptist (1-4 overall).
The Cardinals (4-1 overall) are right back in action Friday, squaring off against Tufts in a match scheduled for 2:15 p.m. (CST).
