Cardinals' Herrmann named MIAC Athlete of Week

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team picked up a key Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Bethel last weekend.

Thanks in large part to the play of Cardinal goalie Tori Herrmann (Elk River, Minn.).

Saint Mary's scored just three goals in its two games—combined—against the Royals, but that proved to be more than enough offense, as Herrmann limited the Royals to one goal in a 2-1 Cardinal victory last Friday, before adding a 24-save shutout in the sweep-clinching 1-0 victory a day later.

And Monday, the junior was rewarded for her efforts, being named MIAC Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Herrmann finished the weekend with 41 saves on 42 Bethel shots, allowing just a third-period goal on Friday, and picked up her second shutout of the season and third of her collegiate career.

Herrmann heads into this weekend's games against sixth-ranked Gustavus having gone 66:40 without allowing a goal—while also boasting a 1.59 goals-against-average and a .939 save percentage.

Saint Mary's (5-2-1 MIAC, 7-6-2 overall) travel to Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn., for a 7 p.m. conference contest against the Gusties on Friday, before returning home Saturday for the second game of the teams' two-game MIAC series, a 2 p.m. matchup at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
