Cardinals complete sweep with 3-1 win over Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — McKenna Parent (Anoka, Minn.), Jamie Henderson (Madison, Wis.), and the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team was good on Friday—and even better on Saturday.

Coming off a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday evening at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena, the Cardinals' turned the offensive heat up a notch.

Thanks to Henderson and Parent.

The duo—who accounted for both Saint Mary's goals in Friday's 2-1 win—put the Cardinal offense on their backs for a second straight game as Henderson and Parent accounted for all three goals in a 3-1 conference victory.

"We played well from start-to-finish," said Saint Mary's coach Terry Mannor. "I thought we controlled the for the most part and got great performances from everyone."

Especially the line of Parent, Henderson and Kassie Lien (Grantsburg, Wis.). Henderson finished with two goals and an assist, while Parent added a goal and two assists, and Lien chipped in a pair of assists.

"Those three really played well—by far their best weekend of the season," said Mannor. "We needed a line to step up and provide us some offensive punch, and they did just that."

For the second straight day, the Cardinals and Oles battled to a scoreless draw after the game's opening 20 minutes.

Parent and Henderson, however, took care of that in the middle period, as Parent opened the scoring with her second of the weekend and third of the season at 4:25. Henderson then sandwiched a pair of goals around a goal by St. Olaf's Molly Andrews to give Saint Mary's a 3-1 edge heading into the third period.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the final stanza—thanks in part to the play of Saint Mary's goalie Marah Shields (Mitford, Mich.), who made 10 of her 26 saves over the final 20 minutes of action.

The Cardinals (2-1-1 MIAC, 3-2-1 overall) are now off until next Saturday, when they entertain St. Norbert in a 4 p.m. nonconference game at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
