ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — After three weeks of indoor competition, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams got their first look at how they stacked up against other teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Coference Saturday at the Bethel Gene Garber Invitational.
And Cardinal coach Neils Anderson liked what he saw.
Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) and Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals in the non-team-scored event, as Kircher placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.44 meters, while Booker was fourth in the women's weight throw, uncorking a toss of 14.18 meters.
Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill.) raced to a third-place showing in the 3,000, stopping the clock in 9:15.15, while
Jacob Hagen-Erickson (Austin, Minn.) chipped in a leap of 6.15 meters to finish fourth in the long jump, and
Morris Dennis (Elk River, Minn.) was fifth in the 400 (52.59) and eighth in the 60 (7.43).
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) recorded a time of 1:02.70 en route to a second-place showing in the 400, and Alicia Berkenes (Buffalo, Minn.) crossed the finish line in 3:22.44 to place sixth in the 1,000.
The Cardinals are back on the track next Saturday, as Saint Mary's travels to Superior, Wis., to take part in the UW-Superior Yellowjacket Open.
