Jovan Newsum.
The Cardinal sophomore continued his stellar spring on Saturday, winning the 1,500 with a time of 4:07.70 at the Gustavus Lee Krough Invitational.
And Newsum's effort was just one of several stellar showings by the Cardinals in the non-team-scored event.
Ross Kinderman chipped in a second-place showing in the 110 hurdles—shattering the school record with a time of 15.19—and
Jacob Hagen-Erickson equaled that place finish in the long jump (6.42 meters).
Tyler Kircher was third in the hammer throw (47.36 meters), wihle
Ryan Buchmeier and
Bryan Ortman chipped in fourths in the pole vault (3.11 meters) and triple jump (12.71 meters), respectively.
Joey Domine added a fifth in the pole vault (3.11 meters), with
Brandon Krogman (400 / 53.32) and
Morris Dennis (100 / 11.32) adding fifths, and Dennis (200 / 23.05) and Kinderman (high jump / 1.70 meters) placing sixth.
Maria Missurelli and Laura Schommer led the way for the Cardinal women, as Missurelli was fourth in pole vault (3.30 meters), and Laura Schommer placed sixth in the 100 (12.87) and seventh in the 200 (26.94). Alicia Berkenes, meanwhile, chipped in an eighth in 1,500 (5:18.60).
The Cardinals are back on the track next Saturday, as Saint Mary's travels to La Crosse, Wis., to take part in the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge
