WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team had so much fun playing overtime last Wednesday, that the Cardinals decided to put in a little more OT on Saturday against Bethel.
The Cardinals weren't able to come up with a second straight overtime victory, but they did earn a key conference point, as Saint Mary's battled the visiting Royals to a 0-0, double-overtime stalemate in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
Evan Claffy (Joliet, Ill.) proved to be the hero for the Cardinals, finishing with xi saves—including a key stop in each of the two overtime periods—en route to his second shutout of the season.
Saint Mary's—which beat Simpson 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday—peppered BU goalkeeper Jakob Bartels with seven shots, but the Royal sophomore was up to the challenge, stopping all seven—including three of the foot of the Cardinals'
Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.).
The Cardinals (0-2-1 MIAC, 3-4-1 overall) are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Gustavus in a 7 p.m. conference matchup at Ochrymowycz Field.
