Cardinals cruise to 3-0 win to finish Day 1 2-0

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team continued its Day 1 dominance at the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic Friday evening, as the Cardinals cruised to a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran in their second match of the two-day tournament.

The Cardinals, who rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat UW-La Crosse 3-1 in their opening match, did not give the Knights a chance in Match No. 2, winning the opening set 25-14, before completing the sweep with back-to-back 25-18 wins in Sets 2 and 3 to ice the win.

Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) each recorded 12 kills to pace the Cardinals' offensive attack. Tayler MacVey (Dodge Center, Minn.) dished out 20 assists, while Brittney Hanson (Janesville, Iowa) chipped in 16 assists and Jenna Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) finished with a team-leading 22 digs.

The Cardinals (3-0 overall) are back in action on Saturday, squaring off against nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point at noon and Luther at 4 p.m. in Day 2.
