WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team—coming off back-to-back shutout victories to open the season—suffered its first loss of the 2015 campaign on Sunday, as North Park handed the Cardinals a 2-1 setback at Ochrymowycz Field.
The Cardinals, who opened the season with a 5-0 win over Viterbo last Tuesday, before drubbing Cornell 7-0 on Friday, surrendered their first goal with 11 minutes remaining in the opening half, as North Park's Emil Eriksson beat Saint Mary's goalkeeper
Nate Levy (Byron, Minn.).
Joe Bosco (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) pulled the Cardinals even, taking a feed from
Victor Mendoza (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and rifling a shot past the outstretched arms of Vikings' goalkeeper Chris Tomuta five minutes into the second half.
The 1-1 deadlock only lasted 18 minutes, however, as North Park's Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh gave the Vikings the lead for good in the 68th minute, lofting a free kick past Levy.
Levy finished with four saves for Saint Mary's, while Tomuta made seven staves in goal for the Vikings.
The Cardinals (2-1-0 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, entertaining Luther in an 8 p.m. nonconference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
