Bryan Ortman, who swept the long and triple jump competitions. … Ortman—who won both the long and triple jumps for the second straight year at the Cardinal Early Birdinal—cleared 6.61 meters in the long jump, while adding a leap of 13.68 meters in the triple jump. … Ortman's 13.68-meter effort in the triple jump ranks 20
th in all of NCAA Division III. …
Morris Dennis became coach
Niels Anderson's first national qualifier a year ago, earning a spot in the 400 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor National Championships—won the 400 at the Early Birdinal with a time of 51.46, while
James Davis (Dallas, Texas), running in his first collegiate meet, posted Saint Mary's second-fastest 55 time in program history, stopping the clock in 6.73. …
Maria Missurelli picked up the Cardinal women's long first-place showing, clearing 2.76 meters to win the pole vault. … Other top male finishers at last Saturday's Early Birdinal included:
Joe Gardner finished third in the shot put (9.38) and fourth in the 55 hurdles (8.64);
Desmond Steward chipped in a fourth in the long jump (6.23 meters) and a seventh in the 55 (6.92);
Jacob Hagen-Erickson took fourth in the long jump (6.28);
Ross Kinderman placed fifth in the long jump (6.07); and
Phil Emmerich was fifth in the 55 hurdles (9.03). … On the women's side, top finishers included:
Clare Siska was fifth in the 200 (29.64) and 12
th in the 400 (1:04.00), and
Olivia Kostueck and Madeline Eichers added 11
th-place finishes in the shot put (8.09 meters) and weight throw (12.26 meters), respectively. … Dennis (indoor and outdoor 400), Missurelli (outdoor pole vault),
Ross Kinderman (Onalaska, Wis. / indoor 60 hurdles) all earned all-conference honors a year ago, while Dennis was also crowned conference champion in the outdoor 400 with a school-record time of 48.42. … The Cardinals broke six school records at the 2015 MIAC Indoor Championships, and added four more at the conference's outdoor championships.
