ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team headed into Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown with Hamline as one of the hottest teams in the conference.
After all, the Cardinals—fueled by last Saturday's 2-0 victory over Concordia—had won three of their last four contests.
And the Pipers could not stop the Cardinals from keeping their unbeaten string in tact, as the two teams battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie.
After a scoreless first half, Hamline got on the board first, as Oscar Campbell scored off an assist from Adam King in the game's 77
th minute.
Sean Butcher (Cave Creek, Ariz.) netted the equalizer four minutes later, scoring on a penalty kick just four minutes later to pull the Cardinals even.
Nate Levy (Bryon, Minn.) stopped a career-high 10 shots in goal for the Cardinals, while Dean Isaacson finished with four saves for the Pipers.
The Cardinals return to their home turf at Ochrymowycz Field on Wednesday, entertaining Macalester in a 7 p.m. conference matchup.
