Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) picked up top five finishes in three individual events, while adding top-five efforts in a pair of relays at last Saturday's Macalester Invitational. Tonda won the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:41.82, while adding a second in the 200 IM (2:09.26) and a fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.47). Tonda also teamed with Mark Clayton (Forest Lake, Minn.), Lucas Gerads (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Corey Piper (Winona, Minn.) to place fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:47.63), while hooking up with Clayton, Gerads and Nicholas Sawchuk (Rochester, Minn.) to add a fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.88). … Clayton posted a second-place time of 1:05.77 in the 100 breaststroke at Macalester last weekend, while finishing right behind Tonda in the 200 IM, posting a third-place time of 2:17.67, and adding a second third-place effort in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.67. … Gerads chipped in fourths in the 100 and 200 butterfly (58.96 / 2:20.88), and added a fifth in the 400 IM (5:02.77). … Brian Mockler (Dubuque, Iowa) tallied a fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.27) and a ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.34), and Piper posting a time of 1:06.21 to finish 10th in the 100 butterfly. … Kizzy Bell (St. Paul, Minn.) led the charge for the Saint Mary's women at the Macalester Invitational, winning the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:12.47. The freshman also added a fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.23). … Reese Galewski (Winona, Minn.) chipped in a second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.31), a fourth in the 1000 freestyle (12:33.60), and an eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:58.04). … Christina Weldai (London, England) posted a pair of sixth-place efforts in the 50 freestyle (27.22) and the 200 freestyle (2:13.79) last weekend. … Spencer Johnston (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Caroline Hoffman (Chicago, Ill.) notched times of 2:53.79 and 2:54.76 to place seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 IM. … Zoe Schaetz (Winona, Minn.) notched a seventh in the 1000 freestyle (13:12.16), and Ailie Davidson (Duluth, Minn.) finished eight in the one-meter diving (161.65). … The Cardinal women's 200 medley relay team of Weldai, Bell, Galewski, and Hoffman placed third with a time of 2:01.60, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Weldai, Hoffman, Galewski, and Schaetz placed fourth in 1:52.49.
