MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's and women's swimming and diving head to the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center this weekend to take part in the two-day Minnesota Challenge.

Reese Galewski (Winona, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal women during their dual-meet loss to Augsburg last Saturday, posting a first-place time of 1:04.45 in the 100 butterfly, while also adding a second in the 1,650 freestyle (20:489.96). … The Cardinals had four other second-place finishes against the Auggies—Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) scored seconds in both the 200 IM (2:24.72) and 400 IM (5:11.19), and Chloe Morrison and Caroline Hoffman (Chicago, Ill.) added a seconds in the 500 freestyle (5:54.50) and 100 breaststroke (1:27.25), respectively. … Christina Weldai (London, England) finished third in both the 200 freestyle (2:19.14) and 100 backstroke (1:11.73), with Sarah Fanning (Sparta, Wis.) and Ailie Davidson (Duluth, Minn.) equaling that third-place double. Fanning placed third in both the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 28.43 and 1:02.59, respectively, with Davidson finishing third in both the one-meter (198.10) and three-meter (166.20) diving competitions.
 … Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) posted a pair of record-setting performances at the Jean Freeman Invitational on Dec. 4-5—breaking the school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.39, while adding a school-record showing in the 200 breaststroke a day later, touching the wall in 2:32.49. … The Cardinal men have been off since competing at the Luther Sprint Invitational on Jan. 16. Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) led the way for Saint Mary's, posting a time of 1:06.41 to finish seventh in the 100 breaststroke, while also adding an 11th-place time of 28.12 in the 50 backstroke. Lucas Gerads (St. Cloud, Minn.) raced to a time of 58.23 to place eighth in the 50 breaststroke and Brian Mockler (Dubuque, Iowa) chipped in a ninth-place time of 31.02 in the 50 breaststroke.
