Meet ResultsNORTHFIELD, Minn. — For
Niels Anderson and the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams, Friday's St. Olaf Ole Qualifier was the perfect opportunity for one final tune-up before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships next weekend.
And as far as Anderson is concerned, the Ole Qualifier proved one thing—his Cardinals are finely tuned and running on all cylinders.
Bryan Ortman led the way for the Cardinal men, winning the triple jump with a leap of 13.59 meters, while
Becca Dup and
Maria Missurelli narrowly missed breaking school records in finishing second in the 60 (8.19) and pole vault (3.30m), respectively to pace the Saint Mary's women in the non-team-scored event.
The men's 4 x 200 relay also posted a stellar performance, as
James Davis,
Desmond Steward,
Gordy Paulman, and
Morris Dennis teams to stop the clock in 1:31.62 to place second.
Luis Avila uncorked a fourth-place leap of 6.31 meters in the long jump and
David Kemper chipped in a fifth-place showing in the pole vault (4.22m), while
Joe Gardner added a ninth in the high jump (1.51m), Avila placed ninth in the triple jump (11.27m), and
Tyler Fiebig finished 10
th in the 600 (1:31.25).
Along with the performances of Dup and Missurelli, the Cardinal women top-10 performances included a seventh from
Natalie King in the weight throw (11.56m), an eighth from
Clare Siska in the 400 (1:04.10), a ninth from
Alicia Berkenes in the 1,000 (3:19.67), and a 10
th from Madeline Eichers in the shot put (9.33m).
The Cardinals return to Northfield, Minn., next Friday and Saturday—this time heading across town to Carleton College—to take part in the MIAC Indoor Championships.
