MIAC Athletes of the WeekWINONA, Minn. — It's been memorable season for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Micaela Meredith (Bloomington, Minn.).
The Cardinal senior has put up career numbers in helping guide the Saint Mary's women's basketball team to an 18-3 overall record—not to mention a fifth straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff berth.
And her latest efforts—including a combined 39 points in wins over St. Catherine and Saint Benedict—earned Meredith her first career MIAC Athlete of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday.
Meredith kicked off her week scoring a team-high 23 points—and the Cardinals needed every one of them in a 62-60 win over upset-minded St. Catherine at the Saint Mary's Gym last Wednesday. Meredith went 9-for-17 from the field—knocking down one of three 3-point attempts—and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, while adding a pair of rebounds and a steal.
The senior guard followed that up with another stellar performance three days later, scoring 16 points on 6 of 15 shooting—while adding seven rebounds and three assists—in Saint Mary's 61-53 victory over Saint Benedict.
For the week, Meredith—who has now scored 20 or more points six times this season—averaged 19.5 ppg, hauled in nine rebounds (4.5 rpg), and added three assists, one block, and one steal.
With their two wins last week, the Cardinals (12-2 MIAC, 18-3 overall) not only locked one of the league's six MIAC playoff spots, but also maintained a share of the top spot in the conference standings with St. Thomas—two games in front of Concordia and Gustavus—heading into Wednesday's game at Bethel.
