Cardinals at the Phil Esten Challenge—The Last Appearance:
• April 17, 2015 * La Crosse, Wis.: For the second year in a row, the Cardinals broke the school record in the 10,000, as Jovan Newsum shattered the school mark—set by teammate Aaron Haley at the same event in 2014—stopping the clock in 32:04.45 to finish sixth overall. And Newsum wasn't the only person in a record-breaking mood, as Maria Missurelli and Morris Dennis also etched their names in the Cardinal record book. Dennis shattered the Cardinal record in the 400 with a second-place time of 48.54, while Missurelli cleared a record-setting 3.25 meters in the pole vault to finish sixth overall.

• The Cardinals collected five top-2 finishes at the Gustavus Lee Krough Invitational last Saturday—led by Maria Missurelli's winning vault of 3.39 meters in the pole vault. … Becca Dup placed second in the long jump with a 5.25m effort, while Morris Dennis finished second in the 200 (22.46), Austin O'Hare added a second in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:00.59), and Jacob Hagen-Erickson a leap of 6.48 meters to lead a 2-3 finish in the long jump to pace the Cardinal men. … Brandon Krogman hipped in a top-5 finish for the Cardinal men, placing fourth in the 400 with a time of 52.41. … Other top male performances at the Lee Krough last Saturday included: Kody Michaels placing fifth in the 400 hurdles (59.81); Luis Avila adding a seventh-place effort of 5.91m in the long jump; Hagen Erickson chipping in a seventh in the triple jump (12.30m), and Jovan Newsum clocking a time of 1:59.97 to finish seventh in the 800. … Other top female performances at the Lee Krough Invitational included: Molly Abraham clocking a time of 1:09.51 in the 400 to place 14^th; Alicia Berkenes adding a time of 2:32.59 to finish 19^th in the 800; Madeline Eichers and Kierra Walske finishing 19^th and 20^th in the discus with throws of 30.31m and 30.21m, respectively; and Allie Thiel clocking a time of 2:34.48 to place 21^st in the 800. … The Cardinals boasted a pair of all-conference performers at the MIAC Indoor Championships in March. Dennis shattered his own school record in the 400, for the second time this year, placing third with a time of 49.46—four-tenths of a second faster than his previous school mark. Missurelli, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters to place second. … Ortman earned honorable-mention all-conference honors in both the triple jump and the long jump, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. … James Davis and Brandon Krogman also collected honorable-mention All-MIAC honors at the indoor championships, with Davis placing fourth in the 200 and Krogman adding a sixth in the 600. … Davis set the school record in the indoor 200 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational, stopping the clock in 22.71, while Krogman became the new school record-holder in the 800, breaking the tape in 1:58.74. … Competing in her first MIAC Indoor Championships, Dup earned honorable-mention all-conference honors with a sixth-place showing in the long jump. … Dennis became coach Niels Anderson's first national qualifier, as the then-freshman earned a spot in the 400 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
