WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams return home to the Saint Mary's Track & Field Complex on Saturday, hosting their second meet of the outdoor season, the Saint Mary's Open.

• Saint Mary's collected one first-place finish, five top-10 performance and one school record at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge last Friday. … Morris Dennis outdueled the rest of the Phil Esten field in winning the 400 in a time of 48.22. … Jacob Hagen-Erickson—twice—Luis Avila, Brandon Krogman, and Maria Missurelli joined Dennis as top-10 finishers at the Phil Esten Challenge. Hagen-Erickson placed third in the long jump (6.56m) and sixth in the triple jump (12.01m), while Avila was fifth in the long jump (6.27m), Krogman chipped in an eighth in the 800, stopping the clock in 1:57.43, and Missurelli placed eighth in the pole vault (3.35m). … Dennis and Krogman also teamed with James Davis and Andrew Allemann to shatter the school record in the 4x400 relay with a fifth-place time of 3:22.75. … Other top men's performances at the Phil Esten Challenge included: Davis in the 100 (11.29),  in the 100, Desmond Steward in the 200 (23.80), Jase Pater in the 5,000 (17:04.80), Ross Kinderman in the javelin (43.33m) and discus (29.78), and Connor Nicholas in the hammer (34.56m) and discus (27.98). … On the women's side, top showings came from Becca Dup in the 200 (27.27) and the long jump (4.95m), Kynzie Smedsrud in the 100 hurdles (17.82), Clare Siska in the 400 hurdles (1:12.32), Allie Thiel in the 1,500 (5:13.72), Erika Thiel (20:43.62) and Paige Schernecker (21:01.65) in the 5,000, Natalie King in the hammer (38.10m), Molly Abraham in the 400 (1:09.36), and Madeline Eichers in the shot put (10.04m) and discus (34.17m). … The Cardinals boasted a pair of all-conference performers at the MIAC Indoor Championships in March. Dennis shattered his own school record in the 400, for the second time this year, placing third with a time of 49.46—four-tenths of a second faster than his previous school mark. Missurelli, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters to place second. … Ortman earned honorable-mention all-conference honors in both the triple jump and the long jump, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. … James Davis and Brandon Krogman also collected honorable-mention All-MIAC honors at the indoor championships, with Davis placing fourth in the 200 and Krogman adding a sixth in the 600. … Davis set the school record in the indoor 200 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational, stopping the clock in 22.71, while Krogman became the new school record-holder in the 800, breaking the tape in 1:58.74. … Competing in her first MIAC Indoor Championships, Dup earned honorable-mention all-conference honors with a sixth-place showing in the long jump. … Dennis became coach Niels Anderson's first national qualifier, as the then-freshman earned a spot in the 400 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
