LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams hit the road on Saturday, heading to UW-La Crosse to take part in the Ashton May Invitational.

• The Cardinals put together seven first-place finishes at the outdoor season-opening Dingels/Brueggen Invitational last Sunday. … James Davis picked up two firsts for the Cardinals, winning both the 100 (11.09) and 200 (22.56). … Morris Dennis chipped in a first in the 400 (2:00.36), Jovan Newsum and Joe Gardner added firsts in the 1,500 (4:10.83) and 110 hurdles (16.48), respectively, Bryan Ortman added a first in the long jump (6.39m), and Maria Missurelli won the pole vault with a leap of 3.05m. …  and a second in the triple jump (12.48m). … Other top performances from the Dingels/Brueggen Invitational included: Brandon Krogman and Luis Avila recorded second-place efforts in the 400 (2:02.53) and long jump (6.08m), respectively, with Connor Nicholas adding a third in the hammer (21.10m), and Phil Emmerich posting fourth-place showings in the 110 hurdles (16.96), 400 hurdles (1:00.31), and long jump (5.60m). Ross Kinderman, Trent Villano, and Gordy Paulman also recorded top-five finishes for the Cardinals, as Kinderman finished fourth in the javelin (43.12m), and Villano (hammer, 21.10m) and Paulman (pole vault, 3.65m) each added fifths. … On the women's side, Becca Dup posted second-place showings in the 100 (12.88) and long jump (4.94m). Kynzie Smedsrud had a busy day, placing third in the 100 hurdles (17.01) and fourth in the 200 (29.44), while Claire Siska tallied a third in the 400 hurdles (1:12.65), Madaline Eichers posted a third in the hammer (41.08) and fifth in the discus (29.42), and Alicia Berkenes and Allie Theil finished fourth and fifth in the 1,500 with times of 5:24.51 and 5:28.03, respectively. … The Cardinals boasted a pair of all-conference performers at the MIAC Indoor Championships in March. Dennis shattered his own school record in the 400, for the second time this year, placing third with a time of 49.46—four-tenths of a second faster than his previous school mark. Missurelli, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters to place second. … Ortman earned honorable-mention all-conference honors in both the triple jump and the long jump, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. …  James Davis and Brandon Krogman also collected honorable-mention All-MIAC honors at the indoor championships, with Davis placing fourth in the 200 and Krogman adding a sixth in the 600. … Davis set the school record in the indoor 200 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational, stopping the clock in 22.71, while Krogman became the new school record-holder in the 800, breaking the tape in 1:58.74. … Competing in her first MIAC Indoor Championships, Becca Dup earned honorable-mention all-conference honors with a sixth-place showing in the long jump. … Dennis became coach Niels Anderson's first national qualifier, as the then-freshman earned a spot in the 400 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
