COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams close out the outdoor portion of their 2016 season on Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Saint John's.

MIAC Outdoor Championships—A Year Ago:
May 8-9, 2015 | Macalester College * St. Paul, Minn.
• St. Thomas celebrated its fourth-straight conference title—and pushed their MIAC outdoor championships total to 33 titles. The Tommies had a dominant performance on the final day, scoring a total of 164.5 points. In second place, Hamline earned 138.5 points, not far behind the Tommies. St. Olaf finished with 118 points ahead of Carleton with 88 and Concordia with 83. Saint John's secured sixth place with 75 points and Gustavus and Bethel tied for seventh scoring 56 points. Macalester finished in ninth place with 31 just ahead of Augsburg with 25 and Saint Mary's with 23 points |

• St. Thomas secured its 11th-straight title with a thrilling performance at the 2015 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. This victory adds to the Tommies impressive record of 30 MIAC outdoor titles in the 33 years of the event. St. Thomas secured a first place finish with a 148 point total over the course of the two day event. In second place, Concordia scored 129.5 ahead of St. Olaf with 107.5 and Carleton with 104. Saint Benedict placed fifth with 96.5 points while Hamline placed sixth with 61. Gustavus, with 57 points overall, finished just above Bethel with 54 and St. Catherine at 46 points. In tenth place, Macalester finished with 32 points and Saint Mary's earned 11.5 points just ahead of Augsburg with 11 |

Saint Mary's at MIAC Outdoor Championships—A Year Ago:

Day 1: Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.), competing in his final MIAC Championships, uncorked his best throw—ever—posting a toss of 50.83 meters that not only earned the Cardinal senior a personal best, but also a conference championship. Kircher recorded his 50.83-meter throw on his fifth of six attempts and was more than enough to best Jesse Scheiterlein of Gustavus, who finished second with a throw of 50.05 meters.
Morris Dennis (Elk River, Minn.) qualified for the finals in the 400, clocking the second-fastest time of the day, stopping the clock in 49.40, and
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) reached the final in both the 100 (13.13) and 200 (26.37).
Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill.) kicked off his long-distance weekend by placing sixth in the 10,000 with a time of 32:16.92. The sophomore will complete the rare distance double, also running in the final of the 5,000 |

Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) uncorked a career-best throw of 50.83 meters to win the hammer throw at the MIAC Championships,
Morris Dennis (Elk River, Minn.) gave Saint Mary's its second conference champion, as the Cardinal freshman blew away the field in winning the 400 with a school-record time of 48.42.
Maria Missurelli (Franklin, Wis.) narrowly missed giving Saint Mary's its third conference champion, but did join Kircher and Dennis as First-Team All-MIAC performers, earning a second-place showing in the pole vault with a leap of 3.30 meters. Fueled by the efforts of Kircher and Dennis, the Cardinal men placed 11th in the season-ending conference championships, while the Saint Mary's women, behind Missurelli's second-place showing, also finished 11

David Kemper (Woodbury, Minn.) won the pole vault at both the Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick Twilight (4.40m) and the Winona State Warrior Challenge (4.28m), while
Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Minn.) and
Morris Dennis (Elk River, Minn.) won the 5,000 (4:02.65) and 400 (48.10), respectively. … Newsum broke the school's 16-year-old record in the 5,000 at the Macalester Bolstorff Twilight on April 28, posting a second-place time of 14:49.86—nearly nine seconds faster than the previous mark, set by Ryan Bickler in 2000. …
