MANKATO, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams hit the road for a little mid-week action on Wednesday, traveling to Minnesota State-Mankato to take part in the MSU Twilight.

• Saint Mary's collected one first-place finish, 10 top-10 performances and one school record last week. … Jovan Newsum kicked things off for the Cardinals last Thursday at the Macalester's Bolstorff Twilight, shattering the school's 16-year-old 5,000-meter school record, posting a second-place time of 14:49.86—nearly nine seconds faster than the previous mark, set by Ryan Bickler in 2000. … James Davis led the Saint Mary's charge at last Saturday's rain-soaked Saint Mary's Open, winning the 200 with a time of 22.61 to edge out UW-La Crosse's Ben Jordan en route to his first-place showing in the 200, while Morris Dennis placed fourth with a time of 22.86. … Bryan Ortman and Maria Missurelli also recorded top-five performances at the Saint Mary's Open, as Ortman uncorked a jump of 6.52 meters in placing third in the long jump, and Missurelli cleared 3.50 meters to finish fifth in the pole vault. … Jacob Hagen-Erickson—twice—Ross Kinderman, Ryan Buchmeier, David Kemper, and Brandon Krogman also posted top-10 finishes for the Cardinal men. Hagen-Erickson and Buchmeier finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump with leaps of 11.59 meters and 11.46 meters, while Kinderman was sixth in the javelin (44.00m), Kemper was seventh in the pole vault (4.15m), Hagen-Erickson added a seventh-place jump of 6.29 meters in the long jump and Krogman clocked a time of 51.58 to place 10th in the 400. … Madeline Eichers had a busy day for the Cardinal women at the Saint Mary's Open, placing ninth in the hammer (42.81m), while adding an 11th in the discus (34.00m) and a 9.09-meter throw in the shot put. … Becca Dup chipped in a 5.25-meter leap in the long jump, with Portia Mensah adding a 13.61 in the 100 and a 29.46 in the 200. … Dennis, Krogman, and Davis teamed with Andrew Allemann to shatter the school record in the 4x400 relay with a fifth-place time of 3:22.75 at the Phil Esten Challenge on April 22. … The Cardinals boasted a pair of all-conference performers at the MIAC Indoor Championships in March. Dennis shattered his own school record in the 400, for the second time this year, placing third with a time of 49.46—four-tenths of a second faster than his previous school mark. Missurelli, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters to place second. … Ortman earned honorable-mention all-conference honors in both the triple jump and the long jump, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. … Davis, Krogman, and Dup also collected honorable-mention All-MIAC honors at the indoor championships, with Davis placing fourth in the 200, and Krogman and Dup adding sixths in the 600 and long jump, respectively. … Davis set the school record in the indoor 200 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational, stopping the clock in 22.71, while Krogman became the new school record-holder in the 800, breaking the tape in 1:58.74. … Dennis became coach Niels Anderson's first national qualifier, as the then-freshman earned a spot in the 400 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
