NORTHFIELD, Minn. — New day, same personal-best performances.
Saint Mary's University's Phil Emmerich—who posted five lifetime-best efforts during the opening day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference—picked up right where he left off during Friday's second day of the 10-event competition at Carleton College.
The Cardinal senior put together lifetime-bests in three more events during Day 2—the 110 hurdles, pole vault, and javelin—en route to a ninth-place overall finish.
After clocking a time of 51.76 in the 400—while adding a sixth in the shot put (10.61 meters), a seventh in the 100 (11.81), a ninth in the long jump (5.82m), and a 14
th in the high jump (1.65m) in recording a 2,998 Day 1 point total—Emmerich kicked Day 2 off with a fifth in the 400, stopping the clock in 51.76.
Emmerich added a sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.80), a 13
th in the discus (25.60m), a ninth in the pole vault (3.60m), an 11
th in the javelin (39.58m), and a 12
th in the 1,500 (5:05.76) for a 5,494-point total.
The rest of the Cardinals—who compete at the Winona State Warrior Challenge on Saturday—will take part in the MIAC Outdoor Championships next Friday and Saturday in Collegeville, Minn.
