RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field coach
Niels Anderson liked what he saw from his Cardinal teams in their first two indoor meets of the season.
He loved what he saw in meet No. 3.
Becca Dup picked up a pair of first-place finishes and
Maria Missurelli won the pole vault to lead the charge for the Cardinal women at the UW-River Falls Winter Classic, while Desmond Steward picked up a first-place finish, and Kyle Lichtenegger, Ross Kinderman, and David Kemper posted second-place efforts to pace the Saint Mary's men.
And while their teammates were strutting their stuff at the UW-RF Winter Classic, Brandon Krogman, Jovan Newsum, and Austin O'Hare were doing the same across the state at the Warren Bowlus Invitational in Menomonie, Wis.
Newsum rewrote the school record in the 3,000, clocking a time of 8:45.92, while Krogman placed second in the 600 with a time of 1:23.90, and O'Hare added a time of 9:01.45 in the 3,000.
"We had a great day," said Anderson. "The performances we got top-to-bottom were outstanding—we continue to progress and that's great to see."
Dup clocked a time of 26.91 in winning the 200, while posting a leap of 5.33 meters to take the long jump. Missurelli cleared 3.03 meters to win the pole vault, with
Molly Abraham (400, 1:07.48),
Alicia Berkenes (800, 2:33.84),
Danielle Franke (3,000, 11:24.64), and
Natalie King (weight throw, 14.09 meters) all chipped in second-place performances.
Steward brought home the lone first for the Cardinal men, winning the triple jump with a leap of 12.93 meters. Lichtenegger notched a second in the 200 (23.57), while Kemper and Kinderman added seconds in the pole vault (4.25 meters) and long jump (6.08 meters), respectively.
The Cardinals are back on the track next Saturday, as Saint Mary's travels to Decorah, Iowa to take part in the Luther Dual.
