ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team entered Friday's nonconference showdown against seventh-ranked Northwestern determined to make this one Friday the 13
th the Eagles would not soon forget.
The Eagles, however, had other ideas.
Fueled by Lindsey Peterson's 17 kills and .516 attack percentage, Northwestern proved to be the Cardinals' worst nightmare, as the Eagles rolled to a 3-0 victory—making Saint Mary's its 20
th straight victim.
Northwestern took control early, jumping out to a 25-16 win in the opening set, before holding off a determined Cardinal squad in the second and third sets with 25-23 and 25-22 wins to seal the 3-0 victory.
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) and
Sara Lind (Peterson, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, collecting six kills each, one more than
Coral Anderson (Rogers, Minn.) and
Rachel Kedl (Lamberton, Minn.).
Brittney Hanson (Janesville, Iowa) recorded 11 assists and
Lillian Braun (Kasson, Minn.) added 10, while
Clare Tack (St. Charles, Ill.) delivered 10 digs, with Hanson adding nine.
The Cardinals (14-7 overall) are back in action on Saturday, squaring off against UW-River Falls at 10 a.m. and ninth-ranked UW-Whitewater at noon during the second day of the Northwestern Quadrangular.
