All-MIAC Volleyball Team
WINONA, Minn. —Â
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) proved to be a double-double machine for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team this season, posting double figures in kills and digs in a team-high 10 matches this season.
Â
Wednesday, the Cardinal junior collected yet another double-double of sorts—earning All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for the second straight year.
Â
Gustavus' Nora Holtan was named the MIAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, while sister Kate was the conference's Rookie of the Year. Brittany Luethmers of Gustavus and Macey Terhell of Augsburg shared MIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, and St. Thomas' Thanh Pham was selected as the MIAC Coach of the Year.
Â
Blattner, a First-Team All-MIAC selection and an AVCA Second-Team All-American a year ago, picked up right where she left off this season, once again leading the team in kills—and proving to be opponent's worst nightmare night-in and night-out.
Â
The junior outside hitter played in all 11 conference matches for the Cardinals, who finished 6-5 in league play and were eliminated from MIAC Playoff contention on the final day of the regular season. Blattner posted a team-high 135 kills in those 11 MIAC matches—ranking third in the conference—while also adding six assists, one service ace, 101 digs, and 12 blocks.
Â
Overall, Blattner was one of just three Cardinals to play in all 28 matches, amassing a team-leading 312 kills—giving her 800 for her three-year collegiate career—and finishing third on the team with 247 digs. She also delivered 10 assists, 18 aces, and 22 blocks.
Â
The MIAC also announced the 11th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for volleyball, which included Saint Mary's
