4th-ranked UW-Oshkosh downs Cardinals

By DONNY NADEAU

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — UW-Oshkosh entered Friday's nonconference game against the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's basketball team boasting a rather impressive 2017 pedigree—unbeaten in its first nine games and ranked No. 4 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25.

And the Cardinals learned first-hand that the Titans were deserving of those lofty numbers.

UW-Oshkosh used a big run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to build a 22-point lead and never let the Cardinals recover in dealing Saint Mary's an 87-50 setback during the opening day of the JustAGame Classic.

UW-Oshkosh jumped out to an eight-point, 25-17 advantage through the game's opening 10 minutes, but used a 22-8 run over the final 10 minutes to take a commanding 47-25 lead into the locker room at the half.

The fourth-ranked Titans continued to flex their muscles after the break, outscoring Saint Mary's 40-25 in the second half en route to their 10th straight win to open the season.

Christian Oliveras (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the way for the Cardinals, scoring a team- and career-high 11 points, while Kareem Anthony-Bello (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 10 points and David Lindstrand (Lakeville, Minn.) added nine.

The Cardinals shot 35 percent from the field (36 percent)—knocking down 20 of 56 field goal attempts, including five 3-pointers—while going 5-for-10 from the free throw line. UW-Oshkosh, meanwhile, hit on 52 percent of its field goal attempts—including a 15-for-27 effort (56 percent) in the second half.

The Cardinals (1-8 overall) close out the two-day JustAGame Classic on Saturday, squaring off against UW-Platteville in a 3 p.m. contest in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
