MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams—coming off a stellar season-opening showing at the Saint Mary's Early Birdinal last Saturday—was at it again Saturday.
For the second week in a row, the Cardinals put together another great performance—this time at the highly competitive—and crowded—UW Stout Open.
Despite the high level of talent—including perennial national contenders and All-Americans—the Cardinals were able to finish with numerous Top 5 performances.
On the men's side,
Brandon Krogman (Owatonna, Minn.) ran the second-fastest 400 in Saint Mary's history, winning the event with a time of 50.56, while
Kody Michaels (Stoddard, Wis.) was the top collegian in the 60 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.78.
Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.) finished second in the 200, ending with a time of 22.87—another Top 5 all-time performance—and also managed to finish third in the long jump (6.67m) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.12).
Other notable performances on the men's team included:
Desmond Steward, who finished fourth in the long jump (6.37);
Austin O'Hare (Rushford, Minn.), who finished third in the 800 (2:01.62); and Peyton Lavigne, Matthew Boone (Melrose, Minn.), Jon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn.), and
Andy Allemann (Cochrane, Wis.) who teamed to place fifth in the 4x400 meter relay (3:42.31).
On the women's side, Carley Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.) ran a great 800, finishing with a time of 2:31:31 and earning a fourth-place finish, while Natalie King (Houston, Minn.) managed to place fifth in the weight throw, ending with a distance of 14.78 meters. Alexis Floresca (Romeoville, Ill.) also performed well at her first meet in a Cardinals uniform, winning her heat of the 60 meter prelims with a Top 5 all-time mark of 8.25.
The Cardinals will look to build off their performances next week, as they return to UW Stout for the Warren Bowlus Invitational.
