ST. PAUL, Minn. — What a difference a day makes.

Sort of.

Less than 24 hours after battling to a 3-3 deadlock—with all six goals coming after the game's opening 20 minutes—the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and St. Catherine women's hockey teams turned up the offensive heat early in Saturday's rematch.

The Cardinals and Wildcats combined for four first-period goals—including the game's first goal just 30 seconds after the opening face-off.

Over the game's final two periods, three more goals would be scored.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, two of those three goals came off the sticks of Wildcat players, as St. Catherine handed Saint Mary's a 4-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at Drake Arena.

St. Catherine did not even let the fans get comfortable in their seats before netting the game's first goal, as Anna Carman beat Saint Mary's goalie Ashley Corcoran (Red Wing, Minn.) just 30 seconds into the first period.

Saint Mary's would answer with back-to-back goals—the first by scoring leader Bailey Wendt (Roseville, Minn.) at 4:09 and the second by Kelsey Corcoran (Red Wing, Minn.) five minutes later—to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game, 2-1.

St. Catherine's Emilee Anderson would net the equalizer at 16:58, as the two teams headed into the locker room after 20 minutes deadlocked at 2-2.

The Wildcats regained the upper hand midway through the second period when Laken Muller—who scored one of SCU's three goals on Friday night—beat Ashley Corcoran to give St. Catherine a 3-2 edge, an advantage they would carry into the second-period intermission.

Anderson found the back of the net for the second time at 5:57 of the third period to give St. Catherine a two-goal cushion, 4-2. A two-goal cushion that would last less than four minutes, as Anya Hafiz (Woodbury, Minn.) cut the deficit to one, 4-3, with her second goal in as many games.

That would be as close as the Cardinals would get however, as St. Catherine kept Saint Mary's off the board over the game's final 10:51 to seal the win.

Ashley Corcoran finished with a season-high 39 saves in goal for the Cardinals, while SCU's Bryce Boreen stopped 28 of Saint Mary's 31 shots.

The Cardinals (4-5-1 MIAC, 7-9-1 overall)—who have now scored three goals in each of their last six games—are back in action next weekend with a pair of conference games against Gustavus. Saint Mary's and GAC will square off at 7 p.m. at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena on Friday, before heading to Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter, Minn., for Saturday's 2 p.m. rematch.
